In December of 2025, Thermit Australia Pty Ltd changed its company name to Goldschmidt Australia Pty Ltd. The name change is to
align to our branding strategy and as a subsidiary company within the Goldschmidt Group.
Goldschmidt Australia (formally known as Thermit Australia) has long been associated with the supply of aluminothermic welding consumables in Australia and New Zealand. Founded under the banner of Humes Limited in 1952, Goldschmidt Australia became a member of the Goldschmidt Group in 1986.
Since that time the product range and market territories of Goldschmidt Australia have expanded. Products sold now include factory or field assembled Glued Insulated Rail Joints, a range of track equipment associated with welding (rail shears, profile grinders), measuring equipment, magnetic safety barriers, RAWIE Buffer stops and more.
Since the 1990’s Goldschmidt Australia has increased its market presence by expanding into South East Asia. In these markets Goldschmidt Australia now has a well-established presence and is known for its supply of quality German and Australian produced railway products. Goldschmidt Australian products are qualified against well-known Australian, European and American standards. An impressive resume including supply to major contracts in ten countries in the region demonstrate that the Goldschmidt Australia product is well regarded.
More recently Goldschmidt Australia (formally known as Thermit Australia) has played a role in the 2020 update of the AS1085.20 and the 2023 AS1085.12 standard revisions. In addition to that the company has added to its production portfolio with other innovative track products such as the R.S.S Magnetic Barrier Fence System. Goldschmidt Australia has also looked to create key partnerships with other companies servicing the rail industry allowing them to introduce Rawie Buffer Stops and Sheer Speed Welding Tents in the local market. As of 2025 Goldschmidt Australia has introduced ultrasonic and eddy current track inspection services. Using the Trackscan USE-B and Trackscan Mira trolley systems developed and produced by Goldschmidt sister company, PLR Linke & Prüftechnik Linke & Rühe, small teams of experienced operators can quickly and safely measure sections of track and provide detailed reports to guide maintenance activities.
Goldschmidt Australia have a long history and have demonstrated an innovative strength to remain a strong local partner to the railway industry.
With professional service and quality products, the future for Goldschmidt Australia remains bright.
